Floodplain Meadow restoration
In September 2024 we began the process of restoring the river meadows to be species rich floodplain meadows. The first section we are doing as approximately 2.5 hectares near the suspension bridge. The was grazed short sheep and cows (unfortunately not short enough so we ended up having to mow it!) then it was harrowed to create bare soil for the seed. Local volunteers helped us to broadcast the seed that was harvested from 4 different species rich meadows including a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) on the floodplain of the river Severn. The field was then rolled to ensure good seed to soil contact.
