Woodland and Trees
There are 90 acres of woodland at Caradoc much is which is classified ancient. The aim of our woodland management plan is to increase the biodiversity of the woodland by increasing the number of species of trees and making sure there is a diverse age structure. In the future we’d like to introduce animals such as pigs and cattle into the woods to manage the ground flora in a way that further enhances biodiversity and provides habitat for a wide variety of birds, moths, butterflies and other species.
The farm is host to several ancient oak trees, many of which can be seen from footpaths. Willow trees by the church have recently been pollarded to help them live longer and to prevent the heavy boughs from collapsing.
We have been planting lots of new hedges and hedgerow trees and will be planting more this winter. If anyone is interested in helping out get in touch!
